'Cher' The Road: Funny Ad Drives Home Serious Safety Message

"If you talk to people often hear people say drivers and motorists do not always get along or do not know how to share the road," said Allison Wilson, program director of Healthy Living Alliance.

Local Actor Jeff Houghton wrote and produced a public service announcement that is gaining much attention. Houghton in the ad, and joined by local comedian George Hoffman, held at Moon City Improv.

"Many of my friends ride bicycles to work. So, it's a serious thing for me. I do not want any of them do not make a day of work," Hoffman said.

"We hope people remember the rap on their heads while out cycling or driving- because both parties have to follow the right rules and get along and share the road, Wilson said.

The highlight of the announcement is an apparition of a lady who looks and sounds a lot like Cher, the animator. Kelly Smith's actually one of the most recognized Cher impersonators out there. She is a part of the legends in the lineup of concerts and performed in theaters in Branson to Las Vegas. She also sang for a movie about Sonny and Cher.

"She's great. She looks like Cher, she sounds like Cher, she's awesome," Hoffman said. "We shot that portion of the shopping street and a lot of people came out and thought it was really Cher".

For real quick blip remember that thought this would really help people laugh and help it stick in the minds of people. I have to say this is one of my proudest moments of work to date, "said Wilson.

From now on, the trade is only playing in the Springfield market. However, Healthy Living Alliance has submitted the piece to national transport agencies. HLA says he hopes the ad is removed and customary in other cities too.
