Cher Turns ‘Farewell’ Tease Into An Exceptional Entertainment Ride

Well, look, this time seriously. Maybe. After declaring its 2002 stretch on the way his farewell tour, which lasted for three years, and then led to a three-year residency in Las Vegas casino.

When Cher came to a sold-out TD Garden on Wednesday, their first concert in Boston more than a decade, he reiterated that this was the last chance to hear it live.

As boos from the crowd swelled, Cher told the faithful. He winked and turned to reveal her crossed fingers behind his back. We got to the point: Why should I stop now?

The truth is, Cher does not have to stop. She is in fantastic shape, as a singer, actor, and tour guide through his 50 years in showbiz. She is 67 years old, yes, but that is irrelevant beyond the comic relief when Cher said imparting limping a bit because she recently had foot surgery. He was also aware of how well he has persevered.

“I can still get into my ' If I Could Turn Back Time ' outfit, and I'm almost 100,"
he joked. Indeed, she did just that later in the evening when that song sounded a booming singalong.

With five decades of songs to be cut down, there is no point in quibbling with the list of songs, even if , like me, you prefer to hear more of his catalog 1960 version instead of an insipid song Miley Cyrus , closing " I hope you find , " during which the crowd went off on a floating platform .

Since its heyday in the '60s with Sonny Bono, Cher performed “The Beat Goes On" and sang Stock video footage of Bono afternoon doing their parts in “I Got You Babe.” Was unexpectedly sweet and not at all morbid. She brushed 70 (“Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves," "Dark Lady”, "Half- Breed”) and greeted her inner dance diva (“Believe" and a handful of songs from last year "Closer to the Truth”).

Add to that a video montage that paid tribute to his career as an Oscar -winning actress , and numerous costume changes ( I counted 10 and lost count of the number of wigs ) , and everything worked magically under the vast umbrella rainbow colors known as "Cher" .

With its fire power hoarse voice and guitar pyrotechnics , Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo , her husband, the crowd warmed to the anthem after anthem " Love Is a Battlefield ," "We Belong ," " Hit Me With Your Best shot "and " Heartbreaker " .
